KATHMANDU

The valley is situated at an altitude of 1,336m above sea level and covers an area of 218sq miles. The Kathmandu is the home of the ancient and sophisticated Newari culture. The Newars are the indigenous inhabitants of the valley and the creators of its three cities-Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur.Kastamandap from which Kathmandu derives its name, is said to have been built from of the timber of the single tree.
SWAYAMBHUNATH
Located approximately 3km west Kathmandu city, Buddhist stupa is said to be 2000 years old. It is one of the world’s most glorious Buddhist Charity’s. Painted on the four sides of the spire’s base are the all-seeing eyes of lord Buddha. From here you came have an excellent view of the valley.
PASHUPATINATH
Situated 5km east of Kathmandu on the bank of river Bagmati. The temple of Lord Shiva, Pashupatinath, with, two tiered golden roof and silver door is considered one of the holiest shrines for Hindus. Although only Hindus are allowed inside the temple, visitors can clearly see the temple and the activities performed in the temple premises from the eastern bank of the Bagmati river.
BOUDHANATH
The stupa of Boudhanath lies 8km east of Kathmandu. This ancient colossal stupa is one of the biggest in the world and the center of Tibetan Buddhism. It stands with four pairs of eyes in four cardinal discretions keeping watch of righteous behaviors and human prosperity.
PATAN
The ancient city of Patan, lies about 5km southeast of Kathmandu, is known as the city fine arts. You will see the Durbar square; the Patan Durbar which houses a bronze collocation, the Krishna temple built by King Siddhi Narsingh Malla.
BHADGAON
Also known as Bhaktapur meaning the city of devotes, this place is the home of medieval art and architecture. The city is at the height of 4600ft above sea level. In Bhadgaon you will visit the Durbar square with its array of temples overlooked by the place of 55 windows built by king Bhupatindra Malla.
THIMI
Thimi is a farming town situated 8km east of Kathmandu on the way to Bhaktapur. Thimi is famous for making clay pots, flower vases etc. and one can buy them very cheaply if you so desire.
DHULIKHEL
Situated at an altitude of approx 1600m above sea level and 32km east of Kathmandu city. It is famous for its vantage location in viewing the Himalayan ranges from ChoOyu in the east to Himalchuli in the west .Dhulikhel is very popular for viewing sunrise and sunset.
NAGARKOT
Nagarkot is a popular tourist resort of Nepal. It is situated 35km east of Kathmandu and from here one can see Mount Everest and other peaks of the Himalayan .Nagarkot are also famous for sunrise and sunset viewing.
CHANGUNARAYAN
The temple of Changunarayan, located at a distance of 14km Northeast of Kathmandu. The temple is universally acknowledged as the most stately example of pagoda style in Nepal. It is considered to be one of the greatest artistic legacies of the lichenin era. Changu is one of the ancient historical places situated on a hillock with conical shape. It is said to be the oldest pagoda style temple in the valley from early 3rd century A.D.
SANKHU
Sankhu is a small village 20km northeast of Kathmandu. This village was the last stop for the traders going to Lhasa from 7th till 9th century A.D.Here one can also see a beautiful temple of Bajra yogini, a Buddhist Goddess of power, it one is willing to walk for 50 minutes uphill.
GODAVARI
Situated at the foothills of Pulchowki, the Royal Botanical garden of Gogavari has splendid natural beauty. The Royal botanical garden has a wide ranging collection of high altitude orchids and cacti. This place is also recommended to the bird watches. The only botanical garden in Nepal, it is open through out the year.
PHULCHOWKI
Located about 10km southeast of Kathmandu this 2829m hill, is a good sport for hiking. A Buddhist shrine is situated on the top of the hill which can be reached through a jeepable road.
KIRTIPUR
It is a small town 8km southwest of Kathmandu and situated atop of a hill near Tribhuvan University. This historical town has many things to offer like old shrines and temples and old houses. One can also witness people in traditional costumes weaving their requirement of cloth on looms.
DAKSHINKALI
This temple of Dakshinkali is situated 19km south from Kathmandu. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali, a Hindu Goddesses of power. A sacrifice ceremony of goats, chickens, ducks etc is held every Tuesdays and Saturdays.
BUDHANILKANTHA
About 8m north of Kathmandu at the base of Shivapuri hill is a remarkable colossal statue of Lord Vishnu, reclining on a bed of snakes. This is one of the masterpieces of stone sculptures of the lichchhavi period. This fifth century statue is in the middle of a small pond and seems to float in water.
NAGARJUN
It is about 10km from Kathmandu city. There is a Buddhist shrine at the top which is very holy for both Buddhist and Hindus. To reach the top one has to climb for about 15 to 20 minutes. From this point a panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges can be seen.
BALAJU WATER GARDEN
Situated about 5 km North West of Kathmandu, Balaju Garden features fountains with 22 crocodile headed water sports dating from the eighteenth century. There is also a large swimming pool inside the parek.
MOUNTAIN FLIGHT
Airlines operates dial 45 minutes flight to view the mighty Himalayan peaks including Mt. Everest. This is the closest one can go to the peaks without having to trek. Please note that the flights do not land any where, all you will be offered is an aerial view.
KAKANI
Situated 29km northwest of Kathmandu, the fabulous holiday area of Kakani features attractions signing form beautiful alpine scenery to the magnificent Himalayan panorama particularly of the Gaurishanker (7,13km), ChobaBhamre (6,109m), Manaslu (8,163m), Himalchuli (7,893m), Annapurna (8,091) and several other peaks.
DAMAN
For those seeking the ultimate pan-Himalayan view, Daman is the place. Situated on the Tribhuvan highway between Kathmandu and the town of Birjung. Located 80 km southwest of the Kathmandu valley.Daman (2,400m) offers the only unimpeded view of the entire Himalayan range, there is a view tower fitted with long range telescopes. Daman can be reached in four hours drive from Kathmandu.
GORKHA
Gorkha is the birthplace of King Prithivi Narayan Shah the great, the founder of modern Nepal. Situated on a hill overlooking the snowy peaks of the Himalaya is a beautiful old palace known as Gorkha Durbar. There are two attractive temples of Gorakhanath and Kali inside the palace, from where the town derive the name . Visitors will get enough entertainment from the Gorkha Bazaar which is located below the palace. The town of Gorkha is located at a distance of 144km from Kathmandu. Gorkha can reached by road, from Kathmandu in conjunction with Pokhara or a day return trip can be undertaken from Kathmandu.
POKHARA
As Kathmandu is the cultural hub of the Nepal, Pokhara is the centre of the adventure. It is the starting for many of the Nepal’s most popular trekking destination. The serenity of Phewa Lake and the magnificence of the fish-tail summit of Machchhapuchhre (6,977m) rising behind it create an ambiances of peace and magic. Situated 200km west of Kathmandu, Pokhara is connected by air as well as by road from Kathmandu and Bhairawa, a border town near India. Pokhara offers magnificent views of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machchha-puchhre, five peaks of Annapurna and other.
LUMBINI
Lumbini, the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautam, the Shakya prince and the ultimate Buddha. The broken Ashoka Pillar, remnants of old monastery, images of Buddha’s mother Maya Devi are still preserved here. The main attraction at the Lumbini remains the Sacred Garden spread over 8sq km and possessing all the treasures of the historic area. The Mayadevi temple is the main attraction for pilgrims and archaeologist. Here we find a bas relief of Mayadevi, the Buddha’s mother giving birth to him. Standing west to the Mayadevi Shrine is the oldest moment of Nepal, the Ashokan Pillar. The pillar was erected by Emperor Ashoka in 249 BC to commemorate his pilgrimage. To the sacred sito, to the south of the pillar, is the sacred pond, Puskarni, where Queen Mayadevi had taken a bath just before giving birth to the Buddha. To reach Lumbini, one can flight to Bhairawa or by car or bus. It takes about eight from Kathmandu.
CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK
Royal Chitwan National Park is one of the best park is Asia to view variety of the birds, and animals. It is well preserved park in Nepal. In the jungle, one can view the great one-horned rhinoceros, several species of deer, sloth bear, leopard, crocodile, more then 350 species of birds and the elusive Royal Bengal tiger.
